Early Virginia Goodmans and Related Families

This section contains the results of my researches into the early Goodman and related families in America. I have focused primarily on Goodman and related families of Bedford Co., VA, and on its parent and sibling counties, because brothers Ansel and my earliest known direct ancestor John Goodman were known to be in and from Bedford Co., and Amos I. Goodman, later of Hart Co., KY, was likely born there in 1782. I believe that the occurrence of the Ansel / Anselm and other common given names in several of these families, and the associated dates and names of the known related families, clearly establishes a kinship with John and Ansel Goodman, and/or their ancestors and descendants. Where I believe there may be an connection to the earlier Goodman and related families of Wales and England, those are noted.

The reader should review these pages in the order as presented in te menu on the left, which provides background information, and generally follows the dates of county formation and progression of Goodman and related families from the eastern shore of Virginia westward through Virginia and into other states as America grew and matured.
